Men’s T20 World Cup – Super 8s, Group 1 | Mumbai
West Indies 254-6 (20 overs): Shimron Hetmyer 85 (34), Rovman Powell 59 (35); Blessing Muzarabani 2-42
Zimbabwe 147 (17.4 overs): Brad Evans 43 (21); Gudakesh Motie 4-28, Akeal Hosein 3-28
Result: West Indies won by 107 runs
Shimron Hetmyer delivered a sensational 85 off just 34 balls as West Indies dominated Zimbabwe in their Super 8 opener, cruising to a 107-run win.
Hetmyer smashed seven sixes and seven fours, blending power with precision at a strike rate of 250 to help the Caribbean side post a massive 254-6. The left-handed batsman was dropped twice by Tashinga Musekiwa—on nine and 70—but eventually fell to Graeme Cremer at deep mid-wicket.
Rovman Powell added a brisk 59 off 35 balls, while contributions from Sherfane Rutherford, Romario Shepherd, and Jason Holder ensured West Indies’ total became the second-highest in T20 World Cup history, trailing only Sri Lanka’s 260-6 against Kenya in 2007.
Zimbabwe’s chase never got off the ground. Akeal Hosein struck early, bowling Brad Evans and then Ryan Burl within the third over, leaving the Chevrons reeling at 20-3. Fellow left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie ran through the middle order with 4-28, starting with a beauty to dismiss Dion Myers for 28.
In the late stages, Brad Evans offered some resistance with 43 off 21 balls, hitting five sixes and forming a record 10th-wicket World Cup stand of 44 with Richard Ngarava, but it was too little too late as Zimbabwe were crushed by 107 runs.
